This support group was critical to my journey. The weekly meetings and your active engagement helped me to be accountable. So grateful.
what brings you to the "slow making sessions"? Burnout at work and wanting to connect with other artists to try to combat feeling burned out on all levels
every. single. MONDAY night folks get together in a Zoom Room aka βThe Loungeβ to create, share, & connect through our creativity ~ FREE to join, always
now, about last night β¦
3 things to chew on, take with you, & activate your creative energy
Clowning
Question: Have you dressed up for no reason at all?
Reflection: Jeanell inspired me last night by sharing their experiences of leaving their home with clown makeup on - even just a little upside down triangle β¦ a creative act, nonetheless! For me, this feels like bravery with a slice of fun and middle finger to societyβs beauty standards/expectations.
Action: Wear a silly hat, put on colorful makeup, costume UP (either in your home or outside) for the sake of FUN and leaning into silly, wonderful bravery.
Murder Poems
Question: How do you get your creative juices flowing?
Reflection: For Barbara, it is βmurder poems,β which she laughed at the name during our slow making session last night. It sets herself up for thinking outside of the box and being playful in the studio, while making cool poems out of clippings!
Action: Cut, slice, clip out different words in magazines, newspapers, or found objects and create a murder poem!
Art Therapy
Question: When was the last time you felt healing energy from making art or doing creative acts?
Reflection: During our AWSG (Artist Way Support Group) last night, CiCi talked about art as therapy and a part of her healing journey β¦ from music and song making, poetry/journaling writing, painting, cooking, gardening and more β¦ Danielle then added that creating with your hands activates the βeffort driven reward systemβ in your brain that releases dopamine, which acts on areas of the brain to give you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction and motivation.
Action: Write, journal, doodle, paint, collage, cook, garden, puzzle. Do the things!
TOMORROW ~ join us for another locals meet-up in Columbus, Ohio!
