I started the Artists Way because I needed an authentic way to connect back to my creativity.
This support group was critical to my journey.
The weekly meetings and your active engagement helped me to be accountable. So grateful.
now, about last night โฆ
3 things to chew on, take with you, & activate your creative energy
Just Get Started
Questions: When do you notice your self doubt / fear / overthinking creep in? What is standing in your way of just making things?
Reflection: Hint: you. Cara shared last night about the power of stepping outside of her overthinking and โjust getting started.โ She talked about getting out her paints, setting up a still life, and just starting โฆ using her materials โฆ then, her overthinking and self doubt disappeared and she was having fun!
Action: Just get started for the sake of fun! Take out any art materials to explore with and just start using them. Pay attention to the power of just letting yourself make things.
Tulips
Questions: How can tulips teach us about creative living? How can you activate your creative energy?
Reflection: Tulips (as all things do) hold energy. They open and close with the sun and are active โฆ even when cut from their roots. We, as creative beings, are also opening and closing throughout the day to creative possibilities.
Action: Notice yourself opening and closing throughout your week to creativity (whatever this means to you). Activate your energy by being open to creative acts: small, large, wild, or low key.
Money
Question: Does the pressure of making money from your art frustrate or consume you?
Reflection: Iโve been thinking about this internal pressure and where it comes โฆ society, struggle, desire โฆ the list goes on, but what happens if we set this pressure aside and allow the joy of making things to be the priority? What can we learn from others in the field who are actively making money from their art? What does this tell us about our path?
Action: Monday and Art: a journaling prompt. Free write about this topic and note what comes up for you. Mind dump. Then, rip it up, burn it, or paint on top of it.
QUOTES HEARD:
during slow making session + Artist Way support group
The Artistโs Way is basically a *recovery boost*
Am I creating art to make money? Nope.
Take it one day at a time.
You canโt do this book perfectly - itโs a tool and we can use it how we want.
Frustration: Doing what I feel / doing what I think I should be doingย
The day didnโt start right and I felt more scattered throughout the day (no morning pages)
โArtists who seek perfection in everything are those cannot attain it in anythingโ
I am proud of myself for sitting through the discomfort and just letting myself paint a little bit and get started
Shoutouts:
S/O to the slow making session peeps for the good vibrations and dance moves, S/O to Danielle and Katheryn for 7/7 days of morning pages, S/O to Oliver for taking a leap to Portugal for a yoga training (see you in 4 weeks), S/O to Cara for her honesty in this process and bookending Weeks 11 and 12 for The Artistโs Way AND doing her first poetry reading, S/O to CiCi for being a bada$$ creative, young mom who is investing in herself with poetry and other creative adventures, S/O to all of us for sitting through the discomfort at times and working on our creative selves
